Week of September 1-5, 2025

As I post an overview of our weekly lessons for World Geography and World History, I will identify each as WG (World Geography) and WH (World History)

Monday:  Labor Day Holiday

Tuesday:  WG:  Examine distinctive cultural patterns and landscapes associated with different places in Texas, the United States, and other regions of the world.   WH:   Create a flow chart to explain the causes and effects of the development of a path to  permanent settlements

Wednesday:  WG:  Review Unit 2: The Physical World, WH:  Review Unit 2:   Spread of Civilization.   Both will also be responsible for our introductory lessons on geography.  I will have a test review each morning of a test, beginning at 7:30 in our classroom.  To prevent any disruptions, students will need to be in class no later than 7:30.

Thursday:   WG:  Students will be tested on their knowledge of the Physical World (as well as our introductory lessons geography). WH:  Students will be tested on their knowledge of the Spread of Civilization (as well as our introductory lessons geography)

Friday:   WG: Extreme weather and natural disasters can have devastating consequences for humans.  WH: Examine common characteristics of a civilization.

Week of August 25-29, 2025

Monday:  WG:   Students will analyze  the Physical Earth, addressing 3 areas: Planet Earth, Forces of Change,  Water Cycle

WH:  Students will identify major causes and describe the major effects of the following eras: Paleolithic Age, Mesolithic Age, Neolithic Age, Bronze Age (Also, touching on the last Ice Age). Assign Vocabuary terms, due on Wednesday and quiz on Wednesday:

Tuesday:   WG:  Continue with slide presentation and discussion related to forces of change. (Earthquakes, volcanoes, etc.) WH:  Continue with the 5 eras, known as the Stone Ages.

Wednesday:  WG:  Continue with slide presentation and discussion related to the Earth’s water cycle

WH:  Examine Hieroglyphs with an online activity (Fabricius activity)

Thursday:  WG:  Examine the physical world and the cultural landscape of the world’s culture regions. (Google Slide activity) WH:  Students will examine hieroglyphics.

Friday:  WG: Continue to work on and finish the activity (Cultural landscape of the world’s culture regionsfrom Thursday.  WH:  A full list of hieroglyphs is vast; students will use a simplified alphabet for rewriting of well known documents, songs, etc.

 

Week of August 18-22, 2025

National Geographic states, “Geography seeks to understand where things are found, why they are there, and how they develop and change over time.”  This is true for each class and will help students’understand the impact geography has, not only in World Geography, but in World History.

Monday:   Students will explain how geographers look at the world and the misconceptions of geography.

Vocabulary terms are due Wednesday. Quiz will be Wednesday over the terms.  Chromebook: Using Google Map, search for “Map of White Oak Texas”  (or their city)

Tuesday:   Students will investigate early maps and how early mapmakers created map projections as well as explaining the initial purpose of GPS and how it has evolved today.  Assign world map. 

Wednesday:   What role does physical geography play in the creation of political boundaries?  Research  political boundaries that have changed within the last 100 years.

Thursday:   Students will search for jobs one can pursue with a Geography Degree.

Friday:  Students will complete the map of their neighborhood.

Week of August 11-15, 2025

Monday:  Staff Workday

Tuesday:   Staff Workday

Wednesday:   Introduction to World Geography/World History and expectations for the class.  (Including but not limited to assigning students’ Chromebook, teacher blog,  Google Classroom, online textbook, journals, etc)  The expectations addressed will be revisited throughout the year.   Assign:   “Penny Observation”.  

Thursday:   Students will analyze and be able to identify various examples of documents as well as evaluate the authenticity of those documents.  Assign “All of about me” assignment.  Due next Tuesday, August 19th.

 

Friday: Examine the following primary documents:  Magna Carta (1215), English Bill of Rights (1689), Declaration of Independence (1776), Constitution (1787), and Enlighenment thinkers John Locke and Montesque.

Supplies for World Geography/ World History:  Students will need to have the following with them everyday.

  • wired earbuds/ headphones (keep in chrome book.)
  • folder or binder for graded papers 
  • notebook paper
